Who is Laura Thorn?
Though new to the Eurovision scene, Laura Thorn is no stranger to the world of music. Born and raised in Luxembourg, she has been immersed in music from an early age. As a teacher at the Conservatoire in Esch-sur-Alzette, Laura boasts extensive experience in musicology, piano, cello, chamber music, and dance. She holds a master’s degree in musicology and pop singing from IMEP in Belgium, which laid the foundation for her music career.
Before becoming a finalist in the Luxembourg Song Contest, Laura worked with Paris-based producers Julien Salvia and Ludovic-Alexandre Vidal, who pitched the idea for “La poupée monte le son.” The song has already generated buzz, and her performance at the national final in January 2025 was full of energy and passion.
Her victory marks a major step forward in Laura’s musical journey and brings fresh energy to Luxembourg’s Eurovision comeback.
The Song: „La poupée monte le son“
Laura Thorn’s Eurovision entry, “La poupée monte le son,” is a modern homage to France Gall’s legendary 1965 Eurovision-winning song “Poupée de cire, poupée de son,” which brought Luxembourg one of its five wins. While the titles and themes are similar, Laura’s version presents a refreshed, empowered perspective.
Where France Gall sang about a passive, manipulated doll, Laura’s song gives that doll a voice and agency—turning her into a symbol of resistance and self-awareness. The lyrics draw a striking contrast between being controlled and taking control, delivering a powerful message about female empowerment and independence.
Musically, the song fuses retro 1960s vibes with modern pop arrangements, maintaining the spirit of classic French pop while adding a bold, contemporary edge. With its upbeat melody and deceptively simple yet impactful lyrics, “La poupée monte le son” delivers a message of self-liberation in a fun, danceable package.
Laura’s charismatic stage presence already won over the national audience, and her bubbly, energetic performance could easily stand out on the Eurovision stage. Her song is more than a nod to the past – it’s a declaration of strength and individuality.
As part of Luxembourg’s big return to Eurovision, “La poupée monte le son” feels like the perfect fit – modern, bold, and full of personality. There’s a strong chance Laura’s charm and creative approach could make a big impact at this year’s contest.

Luxembourg at Eurovision: A Grand Return
Luxembourg was one of the pioneers of Eurovision, taking part in the very first edition of the contest in 1956. The country boasts five victories to date, with the most iconic being France Gall’s “Poupée de cire, poupée de son” in 1965. After a 30-year hiatus, Luxembourg returned to the contest in 2024 with TALI as their representative—and now, in 2025, Laura Thorn steps into the spotlight.
Eurovision 2025 will be held in Basel, Switzerland, and promises to be another spectacular event. Luxembourg will perform in the second semi-final on May 15, 2025. With a song already gaining momentum and positive reactions, Laura is shaping up to be a fan favorite.
To prepare for the big night, Laura will appear at Eurovision pre-parties across Europe, including Eurovision in Concert in Amsterdam and PrePartyES in Madrid. These events will allow her to connect with fans and build even more support leading up to the contest.
With her vibrant energy, clear talent, and musical sensibility, Laura Thorn is definitely one to watch. Her entry “La poupée monte le son” promises to be one of the most exciting and meaningful performances at Eurovision 2025.
