The true Eurovision fever, but in its junior edition, is currently gripping Tbilisi and Europe! The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and the Georgian Public Broadcaster (GPB) have confirmed the list of participants and, most importantly for all fans, have released the first details about the stage design and visual identity for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2025.
The 23rd edition of the contest will take place in Tbilisi on Saturday, December 13. The host nation, Georgia, a four-time winner, is ready to welcome Europe for the second time.
The return of Croatia and Montenegro and 18 countries in the race for the trophy
To the great joy of fans across the continent, the EBU has confirmed the participation of a remarkable 18 national broadcasters. This number makes Junior Eurovision 2025 one of the most massive editions in recent history, considering that the last time more countries participated was in 2021, when there were 19, including Serbia.
While the region celebrates the return of Montenegro and Croatia, the absence of some countries is notable. Serbia, which last participated in 2022, withdrew from the competition. Olivera Kovačević, the then editor of RTS’s entertainment program, cited low interest from domestic authors and financial reasons for the decision.
This edition is particularly significant due to the return of three countries, which points to a growing interest in the junior competition:
- Montenegro (RTCG): Returns after a long nine-year absence, having last participated in 2015.
- Croatia (HRT): The country that secured the first-ever Junior Eurovision victory in 2003, returns after a break that has lasted since 2014.
- Azerbaijan (Ictimai): Returns after 2021.
Last year’s contest in Madrid was watched by over 23 million viewers, achieving high ratings among young people, and this level of engagement promises an exceptionally high-quality show in Georgia.
A total of 18 national broadcasters have confirmed their participation, meaning representatives from the following countries will perform on the Tbilisi stage:
Stage inspired by the Georgian soul: The Doli takes centre stage
The Georgian Public Broadcaster (GPB) has also unveiled a spectacular stage design that combines heritage and modernity while celebrating the youthful energy of the performers.
At the very heart of the stage is the Doli, a traditional Georgian drum that has accompanied Georgian celebrations for generations and symbolises rhythm, music, and festivity.
The drum is surrounded by powerful, sculptural forms inspired by the impressive Georgian landscapes—mountains, castles, fortified villages, and towers. The result is a visual blend of the timeless and the contemporary, designed to capture the pulse of tradition through the eyes of a new generation of artists.
Along with the stage, the refreshed visual identity has been presented. The permanent slogan, „United by Music“, is reflected in a logo full of rhythm and freedom. The letters have taken on spontaneous, handwritten forms, reminiscent of children’s creativity, while bold colour touches emphasise diversity and celebration.
Martin Green, Director of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest, expressed his delight:
“We are thrilled to welcome 18 talented young artists and their delegations to Tbilisi. The Junior Eurovision Song Contest is a unique showcase of youthful creativity and cultural diversity, and every year it reminds us of the boundless energy and imagination of Europe’s next generation. We can’t wait to share this magical experience with the world in December.”
Natia Mshvenieradze, Executive Producer for GPB, highlighted the honour of hosting the contest:
“This year’s show will be the result of months of dedication, creativity, and teamwork, bringing together the very best of our production and technical excellence. We warmly welcome the 18 participating broadcaster delegations and extend our kindest wishes to their young representatives. Welcome again, and let the magic of music unite us all!”
Everything is ready for the great show on December 13, where 18 young stars will shine on a stage inspired by the heart of Georgia.
