The world in Emilija’s eyes

After a break of three years, Serbia is finally back in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest this year! Serbian national broadcaster RTS have internally selected Emilija Djonin, a 14 year old singer from Vrsac, as the Serbian entrant in Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2014.

Emilija Djonin is currently an eight grade student at „Vuk Karadzic“ Elementary School in Vrsac, and also a second year student atEmilija Đonin3 foto RTS the „Josif Marinkovic“ Music High School. She started singing in her early childhood, and she has already taken part in many festivals and humanitarian events all around Serbia, and abroad as well. Emilija plays the piano, and lovesliterature, photography, sports, as well as travelling and spending time with her friends.

Emilija’s road to Malta

Emilija took part in the third season of „Serbia’s Got Talent“ which was organised by RTS. She wowed all the jury members and the audience with her voice. In the final, she finished second, even though she was the youngest contestant. The whole nation fell in love with Emilija, and her success was widely covered by the press. In Vršac, her hometown, she became a real little hero. The next step in her career, which Emilija says it’s her greatest achievement so far, is of course being selected internally by RTS to take part in Junior Eurovision in Malta.

About the song

„Svet u mojim očima“ (or „The World In My Eyes“ in English) is a song about romance, and Emilija’s love for a boy who she’s not sure about if it’s just in her dreams, or if it’s reality. She wonders if this lucky boy knows that he is the world in her eyes. The song is performed in Serbian, but part of the song translates as follows:

I can’ t hide

Everybody knows

The way I look at you

In my dreams

I wonder if you can see that

You are the world in my eyes

On stage

Emilija is going to be alone on stage. The first part of the song will be more intimate and romantic, and she will be playing the piano. Once she stands up and continues her song, Emilija will give a more colourful performance, and show her true power – her voice.

Biography

Emilija Đonin2 foto RTSEmilija Djonin was born on August 18, 2000 in Vrsac, a town located some 80 km away from the capital of Serbia, Belgrade. She is now in the eighth grade of „Vuk Karadzic“ Elementary School in her home town. Emilija plays piano and is also in her second year at the music high school „Josif Marinkovic“.

Emilija has been singing since early childhood and has participated at numerous festivals throughout Serbia. In 2011 she took part in TV show „I’ve got talent“ (Serbian version of the ‘Got Talent franchise) contest (third season) and took second place – despite being much younger than the other contestants. Overnight, she became the idol of young people and her success was widely covered by the press. In her hometown of Vrsac she became a real little hero. Since then she has appeared at many music festivals and has participated in a number of humanitarian events, both in the country and abroad. She took part in the production of the music video, „Miracle“ aimed at increasing environmental awareness that also included many famous Serbian pop stars.

Besides music, Emilija’s other interests include literature, photography and sports. She also likes to travel, and spend time with her friends.

The song that will represent Serbia in Malta, „World in my Eyes“, is about the romantic daydreaming of a young girl who is asking herself: „Are you the boy of my dreams, or is it just my fantasy?“ Emilija believes that taking part in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2014 is her greatest achievement so far, and she says that it is a great honour for her to represent her country at such a prestigious event. She is also eager to meet new friends from all over Europe and can’t wait to get to beautiful Malta, with high hopes that she will do well at the contest.
